Wired has an interesting article about gamers and gamer’s kids. We (and I count myself among this number) are the first generation to have grown up playing video games, and now we’re having kids of our own will there be the same fuss over them playing violent games as there has been in recent years?
Personally I don’t think so, games are a known entity to us. Where our parents thought of computer games as toys we see them more on a par with movies or TV. We know that a game rated 18 in the UK or M for mature in the US are not for kids and would no more let our five year old play them than watch 18 or R rated movies.
No doubt we’ll find something that our children enjoy doing that we don’t like and blame all of societies ills on that, but I don’t think it’ll be video games.
