Bummer. The promising FPS (first-person shooter) Prey 2 has been delayed out of 2012 by publisher Bethesda. The game was to be a sequel of sorts to the 2006 game, but starring a new protagonist and featuring a new cyberpunk noir world similar to that of the movie Blade Runner. Unfortunately, Bethesda isn’t happy with developer Human Head Studios’ work on the game. Bethesda told GameSpot, “The delay is due to the fact that game development has not progressed satisfactorily this past year, and the game does not currently meet our quality standards…We are determined only to release the AAA game that fans rightfully expect, and are unwilling to compromise our quality standards to meet a release schedule.” No new release window has been announced.
-Nick’s take: I was really looking forward to Prey 2. It looked refreshing and different in this world of “me too!” modern military Call of Duty wannabes. If Prey 2 wasn’t looking so hot, though, I’m glad it got delayed; I just hope that development gets back on track and Prey 2 is eventually released in a high-quality state.
