Last week, word was that Nintendo had trademarked a website domain for “Super Mario Bros. 4.” Now, in an interview with Spanish newspaper El Mundo, Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto said that there will be a new Super Mario game shown at E3 in June. Later, Nintendo sent a statement to Eurogamer saying that a new Super Mario Bros. game for the Wii U will be shown at E3. Later still, a Nintendo of America spokesperson told GameStop-owned magazine Game Informer: “In a recent interview, Mr. Miyamoto confirmed that a new Super Mario Bros. game for the Wii U system will be shown at this year’s E3 Expo. This is based on the Mario experience that was demonstrated at last year’s E3 Expo. We’ll have more to announce about our plans for the E3 Expo at a later date.”
-Nick’s take: More Super Mario Bros. is always welcome. The demo shown at last year’s E3 looked exactly like New Super Mario Bros. Wii, though; will the new Wii U Super Mario Bros. game not take advantage of the Wii U’s more advanced hardware? Also, is this news connected with the “Super Mario Bros. 4” website that Nintendo registered?
