Running a console online service is expensive. Expensive enough, apparently, for Microsoft to seek new ways of getting revenue from the service. The newest way is to start having TV-style ads–15-30 seconds in length–during the Xbox 360’s TV and video apps. In a statement provided to website GameTrailers, a Microsoft spokesperson wrote, “The frequency of ads varies depending on the actual content within that app but most apps will have far fewer ads than a traditional TV show.”
-Nick’s take: I use my Xbox for playing games and watching DVDs, but those who use it for watching TV and video streamed/downloaded from Xbox Live will have to suffer through ads now. That stinks.
