This is what the Ouya console will supposedly look like, if the console’s Kickstarter page is to be believed (I have my doubts).

The latest Kickstarter craze is for the Ouya console.  The Ouya is a small Android-powered console built around mobile phone technology that is meant to be easy to develop for.  The console will supposedly come out by March 2013.  After a month-long Kickstarter campaign that lasted almost a month and was initially seeking only $950,000, the Ouya wound up with a grand total of (are you ready for this?) $8,596,475.  That’s a lot of crowd-sourced money.

-Nick’s take:  I don’t see what the big deal is about the Ouya, honestly.  I don’t really want to play mobile games–which I have almost no interest in–on my TV.  Plus, this whole thing seems a bit shady; how does a small company plan on making and releasing a console in only a few months?  Anyone else remember the doomed Phantom console that never made it to market?
