Former Infinity Ward creative strategist Robert Bowling has shed some light on his new studio, Robotoki. In an interview with Game Informer, Mr. Bowling said that Robotoki will announce its first game–which will appear on PC, mobile devices, and unspecified next-gen consoles–later this year. He said the mobile versions “should be additive” to the PC/console versions and therefore won’t be identical.
Speaking in more general terms about Robotoki, Mr. Bowling said that his team will always come first and that the video game industry has “a lot to learn on how to treat talent.” More interesting, however, is what Mr. Bowling said in regard to Robotoki’s game development priorities: “As a developer, our focus is on creating a universe first, experiences second, and game mechanics last.”
-Nick’s take: Robotoki is certainly a strange name for a developer, but I guess it’s fine considering that ‘Nintendo’ was already taken. Hopefully, Robotoki’s focus on “creating a universe” over “game mechanics” doesn’t lead to poorly-playing games.
