13 long years ago 3D Realms announced the sequel to 1996’s Duke Nukem 3D. Since that time, the game has changed developers once, publishers 3 times, and had more reported release dates than any game in history. In 2001, 3D Realms simply announced that Duke Nukem Forever would be released “When it’s done.” Well, ladies and gentlemen, that day is finally upon us.

2K president Christoph Hartmann told Game Informer, “May 3, 2011 marks Duke’s return as he unleashes his brash and brutally honest wit on the world. His return is going to be epic and one that will make video gaming history!”

On October 5, 2010, Gearbox announced that purchasers of the Borderlands GOTY edition would get early access to the Duke Nukem Forever demo sometime before the game’s release in 2011. So stay tuned for upcoming news about the demo.

It might also help to keep your fingers crossed, this isn’t the first time a release date has been announced, and hey its not like the studio could suddenly go under… oh wait…
