EA have confirmed the release of Command and Conquer 3 on the XBox 360 for May 11th. However there is no information about whether Xbox players will have the pleasure of having their armies decimated by PC players.
Now, I’ve never been convinced that consoles are capable of presenting RTS titles properly, with the control compromises necessitated by the used of a gamepad rather than the PC’s keyboard and mouse combination. And not being a fan of EA in general (their churning out of carbon copy sequels and movie licenses, with very little in the way of innovation), I can’t help but be cynical about this release. Not having a 360 though I won’t be able to see if my misgivings are well founded. If there’s anyone out there who has both a PC and a 360, who’s willing to do a compare and contrast, email it to me at webmandrill+gm(at)gmail(dot)com. Alternatively you can put it in the comments.
That being said C&C3 is a welcome return to some familiar features after the slightly different take on the series that was Generals. It encourages a faster paced style of play and gives an arcade feel to a genre that too often lacks the frenetic action of games in other genre’s. This may be the Console RTS which changes my mind, we’ll just have to wait and see. (From EuroGamer.)
