BioShock Infinite--like protagonist Booker DeWitt here--is falling away from the 2012 release schedule.

The holiday release schedule just became a little less crowded, as Take-Two Interactive today announced that BioShock Infinite has been delayed to February 26, 2013.  In a statement, Irrational’s Ken Levine said that the game needs more time to become “something even more extraordinary.”  Also, in an update posted to, Mr. Levine said that BioShock Infinite will not be shown at E3 or Gamescom this year.

-Nick’s take:  This is a shrewd move on Take-Two/Irrational’s part, since I don’t think BioShock Infinite would be a sales success in October.  Going up against Assassin’s Creed III, Halo 4, and Call of Duty:  Black Ops II would have been the death knell for the game as a commercial success.  Of course, we can’t ignore the fact that BioShock‘s departure from this year’s holiday release schedule leaves a gaping hole for Take-Two, one that could be filled with the release of Grand Theft Auto V
